How do you perceive the world? Everyone sees life through their own goggles. My perception allows me to see the most unconventional things in conventional spaces. Changing and flipping things which should make sense into things that do not is my constant way of creating. Faces become holes and bodies become shapes. It is all about what I can do to ‘poke’ at things; changing, altering, and distorting our reality is my inspiration. The question is, what can I do to change your life as you know it.
Playing with the physical forms of clay and plaster allow me to have a connection with the work, and in turn, a break from reality. Shaping and forming it allows me to find meaning in the piece. Playing with perceptions and augmenting physical forms gives me joy. My sculpture work tends to be more complex and the message is not always easily received. I want the viewer to interpret my sculptures as they would, without any obvious notions.
Graphic design is another way I can alter life and perceptions. I use my design, like my art, to cause a disturbance or reaction in those who view my work. Design allows me to make people question what is going on and why things are the way they are. Graphic design allows me to create work that has clear and concise communication. Communication is essential in my design work. Regardless of the type of message, I want it to stick to the audience. I also love playing with what can communicate, how much is too much and how little is too little? Exploring and pushing the limits with communication is something I love experimenting with.
